Perhaps my most innate skill, thanks to being bilingual, is translating and interpreting written materials from German to English and vice versa. I have worked on several personal projects, including chapter translations from my favorite German novels into English.

My most significant projects so far have come in connection with an internship at CineCentrum GmbH – a German production company from TV movies and documentaries. During my internship, I translated several promotional paragraphs of CineCentrum productions for the English version of the company’s website.

My work was appreciated to the point where upon returning to the States after my internship, I was hired as a freelancer for the company to translate screenplays and production instructions for international documentaries into English. Samples of my work include:

  • Screenplay and production instructions for a Documentary about Johann Ludwig Burckhard, Swiss Oriental Explorer and Secret Agent who Discovered the legendary city of Petra and the Temple of Abu Simbel (part of the ZDF Terra X series; aired Sunday, February 12th, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. with a 11.4 rating or 3.77 million viewers).
  • Production Instructions for a Documentary about Alfred Wegener, German Meteorologist and Polar Explorer (part of the ZDF Terra X series; aired aired Sunday, February 5th, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.).
  • Screenplay and production Instructions for a Documentary about Georg Forster, German Explorer and Scientist traveling around the world under the legendary Captain James Cook (part of the ZDF Terra X series; will air Sunday, May 17th, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.).

These screenplays and production instructions are property of CineCentrum GmbH, so I cannot share them on this website. However, upon personal request, I will gladly share samples of my translation work, including excerpts from these screenplays!
